My neighbors acquired this jacket when they were living in Macedonia. It is reportedly part of a wedding ceremony costume from the Balkans. At that place is a long matching apron which I volition probably pigment ane day.

Winifred's Mantilla

Winifred is my friend'southward grandmother whose husband was a junior diplomat to United mexican states in the early 1900's. Winifred was an fantabulous horsewoman, and rode into Mexico Metropolis sitting astride her equus caballus rather than on a side saddle causing quite a stir. The Mexican President at the time was taken with Winifred and gave her several gifts including this gorgeous silk mantilla. He once told her that she was a better diplomat then her husband.

Wikipedia: A mantilla is a traditional Castilian lace or silk veil or shawl worn over the head and shoulders oftentimes over a a loftier comb called a peineta, popular with women in Spain. It is as well worn, without the peineta past Eastern Orthodox women in Russian federation frequently white, with the ends crossed over cervix and draped over the contrary shoulder. The shape, pattern and use are different from an ordinary veil.

Loaned to me by a friend, who received them from his mother he knew nothing about them. My Native American neighbour identified them equally either Sioux or Northern Cheyenne. Information technology is hard to say which equally the 2 tribes often intermarried. They probably appointment to about 1850. The moccasins are deer hibernate and are well-worn on the bottom. Beads were obtained through trade and were oftentimes Czech or Italian in origin and were sown with fine sinew. The yellow beads as "greasy grass" chaplet, the ethnic name for Lilliputian Large Horn, the site of Custer's last stand.

I photographed this dancer many years ago at summer dances in Taos Pueblo. Equally a rule, photography is forbidden during the dances, but this swain was waiting to buy food. I think he must have been from Canada as he wore a Canadian flag over his shoulder. When I painted the prototype, I omitted the flag as well as his black-framed glasses.

The Mini Bunny

This piece is a whimsical reinterpretation of a design created by Mary Elizabeth Jane Coulter (1869-1958). She was the principal designer and architect for the Fred Harvey Company. His 'Harvey Houses' were the famous hotels that dotted the Santa Fe, Topeka and Acheson railroad stops in the southwest during the 1920's.

The bunny ashtrays, forth with various other creatures, were elements in the lobbies of these historic hotels. (run into photo)

I co-owned Harmony Forge, an ironwork business in Santa Iron in the 90'southward. We were commissioned to create these bunnies belongings handrails for access to an elegant suite in La Fonda de Santa Atomic number 26, one the the original Harvey Houses.

I moved to Silver City in 1999 and established Pepperl Forge. I recently revisited the projection from Santa Fe choosing to miniaturize the bunny, while enhancing the shape and style.

The cease result is this eighteen" forged and fabricated rendition of Colter's work with stainless steel basin which appeals to me as an artist and craftsman.
